Background of Case Study
YP1 came to our junior session until September 21 when he turned into a senior.
He has an ‘at risk’ back ground as does his two older sisters. Mum has a drink and drug problem and can be really violent. Mum lost her parental responsibilities just over two years ago and is also a local street worker. Dad is 30 years older than Mum and doesn’t really do much with his youngest children. He is known locally to be in his local pub all day and night leaving YP1 at home with his sisters.
His two sisters are also still in high school.
The family is open to services under CIN.

Since YP1 started attending our sessions we have built a really good trustworthy relationship up. YP1 opened up about things that went on at home and what he had witnessed (not in great detail). YP1 mentioned he doesn’t have tea some nights because Dad is too busy so he will just make a butty at home if there is anything in.
We started doing snacks again few weeks back yet YP1 pops round to keep in touch with us and we offer him food which he takes. YP1 is hanging around the streets until 11 pm of the night because he doesn’t want to go home. YP1 says he loves coming to see us and having a chat but I find it hard when running a session to have that time with him.
Key findings and areas for development
My key findings are that local seniors are desperate for a safe place to come and we can’t provide that in our area. I think a senior group is vital for our juniors who have just left us before the relationship breaks down. We have invested so much time in building relationships with these YP for us to just stop when they go into seniors.
Summarise the Case Study
In summary, I think if we had a senior group we could provide YP1 with the emotional support he needs to help him build healthy relationships for his future. I am sure if we don’t do this YP1 will become another number on the police radar for the wrong reasons. YP1 is defiantly the ideal candidate for county lines.
I was considering asking YP1 to help us with our juniors so he has some routine and can look forward to coming again.
This is around the 5th YP that we have lost real contact with over the past 2 years. I know of two out of the 5 who are already known to the local policing team. I think our service could make a massive difference not just for the young people but for the community too.
