What World Kindness Day Means To Us At Sports Alive

World Kindness Day was last week, and for us at Sports Alive, it was definitely something worth talking about. In youth work, kindness isn’t just a nice extra, it’s what everything is built on. Every chat, every game, every bit of support we give starts with being kind and understanding.

When you work with young people, you see pretty quickly how much a small act of kindness can do. Maybe it’s taking a few minutes to listen, giving someone a bit of encouragement, or helping them find the confidence to join in. Those moments matter. You never really know what someone is dealing with outside of that session, and sometimes just being patient or positive can change how their whole day feels.

At Sports Alive, we see kindness in action every day. It’s the way our team looks out for each other, how they treat every young person with respect, and how they always find time to check in, even when things are busy. We’ve seen quiet young people open up because someone took the time to ask how they were. We’ve seen groups start working together because they’ve learned to be kind to each other too. That’s what it’s all about.

Last week gave us a perfect example 👏

Shout out to two of our young people who showed great kindness to a young person from a different area who came along to a recent trip on his own. They welcomed him straight away, made sure he felt part of the group, and he ended up having a great time. It might have seemed small to them, but for him, it meant a lot, and that’s the power of kindness.

World Kindness Day was a good reminder that being kind doesn’t need to be a big gesture. It can be as simple as showing up with a smile, listening without judgement, or saying “well done” when someone gives something a go. Those small things can make a huge difference.

We appreciated taking a moment to recognise that, and we’ll keep carrying it forward, not just for one day, but every day.
