With the recent warmer weather and summer on the way, we want to remind everyone of the importance of staying safe while enjoying the sunshine.
At Sports Alive, we know how important it is for young people to get outdoors, stay active and enjoy time with friends and activities throughout the summer months but with the hot weather also comes the need to make sure everyone stays safe, comfortable and looked after during sessions, trips and time spent outside.
Staying Safe in the Sun
Simple things can make a big difference during hot weather. We’re encouraging young people attending sessions and activities to make sure they bring:
- Suncream
- Hats
- Plenty of water
- Suitable clothing for warm weather
Regular breaks, staying hydrated and getting out of direct sunlight where possible are all really important, especially during longer outdoor sessions and trips.
Water Safety Matters
With temperatures rising, more young people may spend time near rivers, lakes, canals and the coast. While it can be tempting to cool off near water, it’s important to remember that open water can be dangerous, even during warm weather.
Emergency services and organisations like the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) continue to remind people not to jump into open water to cool off. Even when the weather feels hot, the water itself can still be dangerously cold, which can lead to cold-water shock and quickly become very serious.
We’d encourage everyone to:
- Stay away from unsupervised water
- Never enter water without supervision
- Be aware of surroundings and local safety signs
- Look out for friends and others around them
A quick reminder and a bit of awareness can make a huge difference.
Looking After Each Other
Summer is a great time for getting outdoors, being active and making memories, and we want everyone to enjoy it safely.
Thank you to all staff, young people and families for helping us keep sessions safe, positive and enjoyable for everyone this summer
