Breathing New Life into an Aging Pavilion

In our ongoing efforts to create youth & community spaces that are not only functional but welcoming to all, we’ve embarked on an exciting transformation of our main site, an aging pavilion set with Adlam Park.

The goal was clear: to breathe new life into the space, making it more usable, cost effective and inviting for young people. And thanks to the generous donation from John Lewis and the brilliant work of local tradespeople, we’ve successfully started to turn this vision into reality.

The New Kitchen

One of the cornerstones of this renovation was the installation of a brand-new kitchen. Our aim was to create a modern, efficient, and welcoming cooking space that would encourage young people to gather, learn, and engage with one another. With the generous support from John Lewis, we were able to source a top-quality kitchen that will stand the test of time. Whether it’s for a community event, cooking workshop, or just a casual hangout, this kitchen is designed to foster connection and creativity.

John Lewis has long been a champion of community-focused initiatives, and their donation allowed us to build a kitchen that would serve as the heart of the pavilion. The sleek design, combined with functional space, ensures that cooking becomes a communal activity, a place where young people can connect, learn skills, and enjoy the experience of preparing meals together. The new kitchen we also hugely reduce the costs of outsourcing food for our young people through half terms and summer and enable us to bring this in house.

A Much-Needed Upgrade

In addition to the kitchen, we also took on the task of replacing the pavilion’s aging toilets. Now, with newly installed, modern restrooms, we’ve created a more comfortable and hygienic environment for all visitors. The improvements ensure that the space meets the needs of the young people, community and the updated facilities align with our broader goals of inclusivity and accessibility.

Furthermore, we installed a new energy-efficient boiler and lighting system, which significantly enhances our sustainability efforts. These upgrades not only reduce our carbon footprint but also lower our operational costs, making the pavilion more eco-friendly and cost-effective.

Creating a Space for Connection

While the kitchen and updated toilets were essential upgrades, our ultimate goal was to create a space where young people could feel comfortable, inspired, and engaged. This pavilion now offers a multifunctional area that combines modern amenities with a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a space that adapts to various activities, from cooking lessons to community meetings, social events, and beyond. Whether it’s a place to learn new skills, participate in social activities, or just relax with friends, this revamped pavilion serves as a dynamic and flexible environment.

The Power of Local Collaboration

This transformation wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration of skilled local tradespeople. From electricians to plumbers and joiners, the expertise and dedication of our local workforce were integral to the success of this project. Their craftsmanship and attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the renovation was carried out to the highest standard.

By working with local trades people, we’ve not only supported small businesses but also reinforced the sense of community spirit that drives this project. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the positive impact that can be made when local partners come together with a shared vision.

We are incredibly grateful to John Lewis for their generous contribution and to the local tradespeople whose hard work has helped bring this vision to life. As we look ahead, we are eager to continue building on this success, creating spaces where young people can thrive, learn, and grow together.
