Balancing Screen Time with Real-Life Activities

Why Are Youth Activities Necessary For Young People?

Screens are everywhere these days, we all have a phone in our pocket, and you’ve probably been on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok in the last few hours. While scrolling or gaming isn’t a bad thing, too much of it can leave young people feeling a bit disconnected. That’s why finding the right balance really matters.

It’s not about screens being “bad.” They can be fun, useful, and a way to stay in touch. But if that’s all a young person is doing, they’re missing out key socialisation skills. That’s where youth sessions make a big difference.

At Sports Alive, our activities give young people a proper break from their screens. Playing football, joining in a team game, or chatting in a safe space, keeps young people social and engaged in the real world. They’re building confidence, learning to work with others, and realising what they’re good at, all while having a laugh with friends.

The best part is that the benefits don’t stop when the session ends. That extra bit of confidence, the new mates, the buzz from being active, it all carries over into school and home life. Suddenly it’s easier to focus in lessons, stress feels more manageable, and young people start backing themselves a bit more.

Finding balance doesn’t mean giving up screens completely. It’s just about mixing things up. A couple of hours a week at a youth session gives young people the real-world skills and good vibes they need, while still leaving loads of time for gaming or catching up online. It’s not just something extra, it’s a key part of helping them feel happier, healthier, and ready for whatever’s next.
